Owl Prowl – Sunday, Feb. 17 from 6-8pm at the Hebron Nature Preserve. Free event for adults and children. We begin at the South Grimes Hill Road entrance to the preserve and hike to the observation deck and old forest beyond. Wear snowshoes or boots and bring a flashlight. We’ll start with listening to taped owl calls and I’ll have wings & talons for the touching. We have heard owls in the past. Sometimes the group is large and once owls hear us, they cease hoo-ing. At any rate, it’s a lot of fun and there is nothing like walking the wooded trail at night.
Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 9:30-10:30am at the Pember Museum will be Live Animals and a reading of “Oh, The Pets You Can Get!” This event is free and open to children of all ages. Animals will include Rainforest Opossum, puppy, bunny and possibly a pet chicken. Please call the museum to reserve your seat.
Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 9:00-10:30am (note the time) at the Pember Library will be Raptors & Owls of New York. We will view a slideshow and do a museum search while learning about New York’s amazing predators. Afterwards, we’ll make a feathered owl mask and a pine cone baby Snowy Owl. This workshop is open to children age 5 and older. The cost is $5 per student. Payment can be made on the day of the workshop but registration needs to be made in advance.
Thursday, Feb. 21 from 9:00-10:30am (note the time) at the Pember Library will be Birds of New York & Vermont. We will view a slideshow and do a museum search while learning about the bird songs & calls of New York’s and Vermont’s birds. Afterwards, we’ll make a Audubon bird call which can be painted/colored, and a pine cone bird feeder. This workshop is open to children age 5 and older. Class size is limited to 24 with a cost of $5 per student. Payment can be made on the day of the workshop but registration needs to be made in advance.
I’m sorry but I’ll not accept any late registrations or walk-ins. The Museum phone number is 642-1515.
