Merck Forest Rocks!!

Today, a group of volunteers from the Merck Forest and Farmland Center volunteered at the Hebron Nature Preserve clearing trails. The weather was not all that swift with cool temperatures and a misting rain but that did not stop the group. They brought along three chainsaws and heavy duty loppers to remove the many trees which were down in and across the path. After hours of hard work, the West Trail is now open. You can enter it from the South Grimes Hill Road just passed the creek bridge. The West Trail will bring you to the Observation Deck and to the old forest which is home to many animals including mink and owl. The footbridge has been restored after two major storms. The Woodland Loop’s widowmakers and the North Marsh fallen tree have also been cleared. Much appreciation goes out to Merck Forest for their aid in our trail cleanup. This is a wonderful organization with great people! Might I also add that Pat Wesner and her dog Darla assisted in the clearing. Thanks!

Magic Pre-Halloween

With Burt in tow, Pirate Bernie and her class created exciting art with Magic Scratch. The children were already familiar with this type of art. I’d say we had a jolly good time!

A Hootin Good Time!

The children who attended the free Pinecone Owl art class yesterday at the Pember Library & Museum had a hootin good time! At first, they were concerned that the art project might be too difficult for them but once I explained it, they eagerly began creating their own special owl. Several of the children could not attend and their project will await for them next week at the Magic Scratch class.

There are still seats available in the art classes, so check out the calendar page and sign up your child by calling the museum at 642-1515 or email Bernie at

Nature Preserve Restoration

The Hebron Nature Preserve is in need of restoration. Besides vandalism, the weather has presented trees across paths. General maintenance of the trails have not happen as often as we would have liked. Please help us in any way you can.
