Ancient Civilizations

A new type of after-school discovery program is coming this fall. Culture meets Natural History at the Pember. We’ll be studying ancient civilizations and creating an interactive notebook for each participant. We start at 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Here’s our timeline:

9/20 – Ancient Mesopotamia (See page under Calendar for a few photos)

10/4 – Ancient Egypt

10/18 – Ancient India

11/1 – Ancient China

11/15 – Ancient Greece

11/29 – Ancient Rome

12/13 – Ancient America

This class will be for 1st-3rd graders. Older children can attend but might be bored with the material. Registration will be necessary by September 12. A “fuzzy buddy” award will be given to each participant who attends a program. Our after-school program is no cost.

Here’a a sneak peak of the cover page to our interactive notebook. More photos might be forthcoming as I work through the programs.

6 Silent but Deadly Animals

At today’s after-school program, our students learned about some stealthy animals that were deadly by jaws, claws or poison. In fact, most already guessed at what animals would fit in this category. They learned about the Poison Dart Frog, Caiman, Leopard, Great Horned Owl, Tarantula, and Puffed Adder. They were only stumped by a few. Following the discussion, each created their own Dart Frogs. Here they are!

Snowflakes!

We had a great time learning about Snow, Ice & Animals that live in this environment at our last after-school program yesterday. The kids enjoyed creating beautiful flakes and even took one home to decorate. We found flakes on our windows.

Texas Wild!

Wednesday, November 30 from 3:30-4:30pm. Join us for an after-school program focusing on the habitats and animals in the state of Texas. Mr. Pember traveled to Texas 1889-1891 collecting specimens. Come discover them!

What Happens in Autumn?

Don’t forget about our after-school program today at 3:30pm. Bring some colorful leaves or seed pods, if you can, to share with the class. There will be study, leaf investigation, a time-lapse video and craft.

All About Birds

All About Birds – our after-school program on Wednesday, Dec. 2  went well with the few children that attended. We know it is difficult to bring children to an after-school program at the museum when so many schools have activities. We understand. Here are a few photos of the beautiful Doves of Peace that were made after we learned about Beaks & Feet.
